Q & A

Q: I thought the election was over?

A: We may have lost the first election, but we haven't lost the fight. Up next is the TDD Director election on October 7th. Be SmartKC supports Greg Allen, Linda Hart Tabory, Steve McCandless and Ted Derks. Click here to learn more about these candidates.

Q: How can I help?

A: Here are a few options:

  • Email a link to this website to everyone you know.
  • Encourage your Facebook friends to get involved by posting a link to this website and telling them how to vote in the election.
  • If you would like to volunteer to help us get information out or assist with meetings, go to the “Contact Us” page and let us know.
  • Vote!

Q: If I don’t live in the proposed Transportation Taxing District, can I still vote?

A: Only voters within the proposed district will be able to vote. That’s why it’s so important for residents of the proposed district to get out and vote – this group of citizens is responsible for a decision that will affect our entire community.

Q: Where is the proposed streetcar line?

A: The streetcar line downtown runs from River Market down Main Street to Union Station, and the expansion line would begin at Union Station and run down Main Street to 51st & Brookside Blvd.

The proposed streetcar expansion would impact all Kansas City residents. However, the Transportation Development District up for vote would depend on only some residents to pay for it. Residents of the proposed district would pay for the streetcar even if they didn’t ride it. Sales tax and real estate assessments would make sure of that.
